Games have definitely become more of a business then a polished labor of love. Still probably better then mindless television shows or movies watched passively over hours. Skill-sets with most games can be mastered fairly quickly; over time the experience becomes almost hypnotic or subconscious; shameful that many get trapped in this reality. Some plagued with debilitating health problems instead of the drive to better themselves. Recently the gaming industry is being forced to come to terms with some of these realities. Hopefully the business side of gaming will not destroy the artform as it did with major films.
